The prospect of using solar energy for data centers has grown increasingly attractive as worries mount about the environmental sustainability of AI computational growth, which demands enormous power resources. A December 2024 U.S. Department of Energy study on national data center usage revealed that data center energy demand has tripled over the past decade and could double or triple again by 2028. These facilities accounted for over 4% of national electricity consumption in 2023, with projections indicating they might reach 12% of U.S. power usage by 2028.
